2007 NeighborFest at Vetrans Park |
|
|
NeighborFest 2007 was held on Tuesday evening, August 14, at Veterans (Boulder) Park.
The sun was behind the buildings by 7pm and it was rather pleasant. The free ice cream and bottled drinks (including water) helped. No other food or drink was available.
I was very impressed with the turnout of sponsors -- the mayor, our council woman, and other elected officials. There were all the expected fire and police displays – and they were first-class. I was impressed by the disaster vehicles – such as mobile command center for tornados, bomb squad stuff, armored car (really a tank).
A special Tulsa Transit bus powered by Syntroleum products. This may be something we can get to run around the neighborhood and pick up people for our party on Sept 15 Block Party.
Park Friends, Tulsa Garden Center, Red Cross, OSU Medical (bus to give kids shots), Library, and a brand new one --- name escapes me – for the preservation of appropriate architecture in mid-town. Such as trying to stop new infill from looking modern in an otherwise traditional setting. They are thinking zoning regulations could be the way to go. I invited the lady to address our General Meeting and will call her when I find her card.
I also would like to ask Park Friends to address our General Meeting. They have a program of improvement that is very interesting. We have Veterans, Cathedral, Stick Ball, and the River Park. That’s pretty impressive in my book.
Games were rented (the bounce on type), and open water spouts (very popular). Lots of dogs -- mostly very large dogs.
